Our Mission Statement:
The Latino/a Heritage Month Committee at Columbia University strives to promote the awareness of the Latino/a histories, cultures, accomplishments, and current issues during the month of October, through student-group initiatives and University-sponsored events. The LHM Committee works towards the education and increased consciousness of the Latino/a cultures in the greater Columbia community, as well as to strengthen and unite the Latino/a constituency on campus.

Position: Showcase Chairs (4)
4 representatives will be elected
(2) Showcase Chairs to deal primarily with performers and organization of event
(2) Showcase Chairs to deal primarily with the fashion show (models, designers, etc.)
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the execution and relevant content of the show and its performances.
- Seeks out participants (performers, artists, businesses, etc) including, but not limited to, Columbia University and Barnard students, in addition to non-affiliated organizations and determine performer fees if necessary.
- Plans and directs dress rehearsals, and meet with facilities/technical services to discuss show logistics and various technical requests.
- Responsible for assigning two stage managers who will direct backstage affairs during the showcase.
- Responsible for the grants as stipulated in Article V, Section 1.v
- Works in conjunction with the Publicity Chair to create an effective on/off-campus advertisement plan.
- Recruits volunteers to assist with various duties during and prior to the showcase.
- Must stay within the budget designated by the Committee for all purchases and expenses.
- Must keep an organized record of all transactions, agreements, contacts and relevant documents to be used as a reference for future showcases.
- Decides on the showcase theme with the Committee.
- Meets regularly with OMA advisor, and additional meetings with SDA and University Event Management for planning the logistics of the event.
- Responsible for reserving additional space not reserved during Pre-calendaring.
- Must order tickets make furniture requests, tech requests etc. TWO WEEKS prior to the event.
- Directs at least TWO full dress rehearsals with Lerner Tech Services and all performers.
- Is responsible for all thank you letters/ certificates of participation for performers.
- Additional responsibilities are to be determined at the discretion of the Committee and the OMA advisor should other committee members want additional support for their tasks/events.

Position: Political Chairs (2)
2 representatives will be elected
Responsibilities:
- Must coordinate politically inclined events during the month (i.e. immigration discussion panel, voting information session, political movements of Latin America, etc.)
- Manages budget for event, ordering of food, space/tech requests, OMA advisor approvals, and all other logistics related to the event.
- Must collaborate with Latino student organizations with similar programming during the month (with the help of the outreach liaison)
- PROTESTS, MARCHES, AND DEMONSTRATIONS MAY NOT BE LABELED AS LHM COMMITTEE EVENTS –keep in mind that LHM is a cultural Committee. They may, however, be included on the calendar at the discretion of the Committee.
- Guides Publicity Chair on creating respective publicity materials and its distribution.
- Additional responsibilities are to be determined at the discretion of the Committee and the OMA advisor should other committee members want additional support for their tasks/events.

Position: PR/Publicity Chairs (2)
2 representatives will be elected:
(1) Administrative Publicity Chair
(1) Creative Publicity Chair
Responsibilities:
- Takes leadership role in creating all paper publications including, but not limited to, the LHM calendar and supplemental booklet, as well as all printed materials needed for Committee developed events.
- Responsible for contacting student groups interested in being included on the calendar and the supplemental booklet.
- Advertises with flyers and Internet websites, including but not limited to Facebook, Columbia Spectator, Bwog, CU Arts.com.
- Must send press releases to media sources both on and off campus.
- Responsible for sending out letters of invitations, thank you notes, certificates of appreciation and all other official LHM correspondence (signed by chair).
- Must design and keep a file (both a hard copy and an electronic version) of all flyers created during the month.
- Must keep track of expenditures made for the necessary publicity materials (keep a record of receipts to be given to Treasurer).
- Will designate flyering duties to Committee members and/or any additional volunteers participating.
- Will work with the Webmaster on the creation and upkeep of the online calendar and LHM website.
- Compiles a list of “blurbs” and descriptions for each event included in the LHM calendar with the help of the Secretary.
- Collates pertinent materials used for events to put in Committee binder.
- Additional responsibilities are to be determined at the discretion of the Committee and the OMA advisor should other committee members want additional support for their tasks/events.
